Klopp Airs Issues with UEFA, FIFA
UEFA and FIFA are both feeling the almighty wrath of Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp.
In addition to their current English Premier League campaign, the Reds are also participating in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
Compounded by their recent UEFA Champions League campaign – which saw them knocked out of the tournament following a lacklustre 2-1 performance against Union Saint-Gilloise on 14 December 2023 – Klopp’s men are feeling the strain in spades.
Not even Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the expanded Club World Cup has cooled the 56-year-old German’s ire.
“Now UEFA and FIFA are arranging a new tournament, and suddenly getting a winter break in January is the smallest problem,” he vented in a recent interview with an English media outlet. “I don’t know how to compare that to anything else, where you take time off your best employees and then just think, ‘After that, they will go again and play a full season.’”
Klopp then called out UEFA and FIFA for being careless: “There isn’t one guy deciding who can remember what it was like when he was a player – if he ever was a player. That’s how it is.
“We are obviously not in charge because, if football people were in charge, it would look completely different … We are the people who really understand the intensity of what the boys are doing.”
